July & August 2024 Newsletter

Storm Damage & Closures

The storms over the past weeks have taken a toll on the Club. A HUGE thank you to all the volunteers who have helped restore the ranges. The pistol range is expected to reopen soon, but with future work still needed. Always check the web site, calendar, and Facebook for status before arriving.

Trap & Skeet Intro: July 17

On July 17 the Club is conducting an Intro to Trap & Skeet Workshop at the club. Long Range system orientations at 3 PM and 6 PM, and intro to trap and skeet between and after.

This is a great opportunity if you’d like to learn how these sports work, or need the Long Range training. Bring guns and ammo.

The rifle range will have overhead lights installed on July 19. The range will be closed.

Sporting Clays Coming Up

Come shoot Sporting Clays on July 20 and August 17! $20 per round of 50 birds. Shells are available for purchase, along with food and drink from the Viking Lead Slingers youth trap team (July has smashburgers).

9 AM to 3 PM. Bring friends, this event is open to the public.

Trapathalon: August 3

There will be a new event at the Club on August 3: the Trapathalon! 9 AM to 1 PM, come out and shoot 16 yard singles, 25 yard handicap, 16 yard wobble, and 16 yard doubles. 9 AM to 1 PM, $40 for 125 birds. Bring your own ammunition and gun.

There will also be a flurry (a whole bunch of birds launched at once… very fun!). Folks who sign up in advance will receive a ticket for one flurry. Additional flurry tickets are $5.

There will be prizes when everyone is done!

Break Down Boxes

When you recycle boxes you must break them down FLAT so they all fit each week!

Youth Trap Season Success

Congratulations to all the youth and a big thank you to all the volunteers who make Viking Lead Slingers possible. Their season concluded with the state shoot, participants shooting scores like 92/100 in the rain. Nice!

Hunter Ed: August 24

The next Hunter Education Internet Field Day will be held on August 24, 2024 and is posted on GoWild. The indoor archery range, trap/skeet fields, rifle range, and main clubhouse will be in use. Hunter Education is important as it helps the club maintain its nonprofit status.

September Elections

A reminder that annual elections are held in September. There will be open Board positions. Are YOU ready to be a larger part of how the Club operates?

October Tree Orders

Every year the club sponsors a group order of tree and shrub seedlings from the DNR. Last year it was bundles of 50 trees per species minimum, max of 200 trees. Keep this in mind. More information coming this fall.

The species available last year are listed at:

Club Projects

The club has completed a number of projects on our “long range” planning project list:

  • Removal and treatment of buckthorn
  • Trap walkway and concrete changes
  • Additional sporting clay throwers
  • New tree stands for woods course

A big thank you to all involved who spend great time and effort making the Club better.
