Updated Club Rules & Procedures Handbook
The SCC Board of Directors has ratified the updated Rules & Procedures Handbook. A big thank you to all who participated in the updates. over the last five months.
The final revision, effective immediately, can be found in PDF format at:
and is also linked from the main page of the Club web site.
There were many updates to the Handbook to remove duplication and simplify the rules across all the ranges. The biggest changes are:
- Simplification of the range rules, including:
- TAB-K is the fundamental set of rules for the club.
- Shooting outside of posted hours is universally intolerable.
- No firearms loaded or handled, at all, while people are downrange.
- Clean up after yourself, and so on.
- A guest is now defined as an individual and members of that individual’s family, similar to how we define a member.
- There is no longer a limit on how many times someone can be a guest.
- The guest fee is waived for active-duty military family members stationed out of state.
- The Club no longer rents facilities.
- Holsters are no longer prohibited.
- Drawing from holsters IS prohibited. If you wish to shoot a holstered firearm remove it at your vehicle.
- Rules about transport of firearms have been unified across all activities. It is no longer required that a firearm be cased, but it must be unloaded with the action open while being moved, and always follow TAB-K.
- Trap range is lead shot only.
- Pistol range is limited to ammunition that does not produce more than 6000 ft-lb.f per square inch of impact energy at the backstop. In short, what is permitted is BB, .177 pellet, and .22 LR, 38 Special, 380 Auto, 9 MM, 40 S&W, and 45 ACP. All other ammunition is not necessarily permitted unless authorized by the Board. This includes all magnum rounds, including .22 Magnum. There are provisions for authorizing hand loads that are “down-loaded.” See the Handbook appendix for computing this.
- Pistol Range limited rapid fire is permitted, five shots in ten seconds, to match the Pistol League competition. This is only for the Pistol Range. Other ranges must stick to the 2 second rule. Especially archers! (ha ha)
- Clarification of member expectations to include safe, civil, respectful, and courteous conduct, free of harassment, discrimination, or abusive behavior.
Safety is paramount at SCC, and these rules help ensure that, as well as proper operation of the club and protection of the facilities so all can enjoy them. If you have questions contact the Board of Directors at sccbod@stoughtoncc.com.
We are all empowered to remind each other to be safe, especially if you see unsafe or unwise behavior.
Signs, orientation materials, and the web site are being updated throughout the summer to reflect rule changes. If in doubt, follow the Handbook. Thank you!
