SCC will host the 2nd of our 2 yearly Hunter Education Internet Field Days on Saturday, August 29.
The class runs from 8:30 AM until 4:30 PM. Please arrive by 8:00 for registration check-in.
In order to register, you must first create a Go Wild account and get your DNR Customer Number. Log in and register for the Online + Field Day Hunter Education class. Once you are registered for the class, you should be able to pick our class at Stoughton Conservation Club for your field day.
Don’t wait! There are only 20 spots available. The class fills extremely fast (less than 1 day last spring).
FAQ:
Q: How old should kids be to sign up?
A: Officially, the DNR has no age limits in place for the class.
Every kid is different, so there’s no one size fits all age that works best. Our local instructors recommend that kids need to be mature enough to handle an all day class. We cover a lot of material throughout the day, and they’ll need to stay focused. The class materials are said to be at around a 6th grade reading level, including the written test. Kids also need to be strong enough to safely handle full size adult rifles and shotguns in the class and during their field test, including loading and unloading, demonstrating carries, fence crossing, etc.
Q: Do parents need to stay all day?
A: Parents do not need to stay once their students are registered, but many do. You can tag along with your students through all of our sessions, but you can’t help them with the written or field test.
Q: Can adults participate in the Internet Field Day?
A: Absolutely, but you will need to sign up. The Field Day is optional for anyone over 18., but we have had many adult students in our class with and without kids. Frequently, a parent will take the class with their child.
Q: How many questions are on the test and how many can I get wrong?
A: There are 40 questions on the Written Test and 20 questions on the Field Test. You must get 80% correct to pass, so that means you can get up to 8 wrong on the Written Test and up to 4 wrong on the Field Test.
Q: I’m trying to sign up and I can’t find your class?
A: Make sure you pick the Online + Field Day class or you won’t see our Field Day. If you still can’t find it, the class may be full.
Q: Should I bring my gun?
A: No! Please DO NOT bring any firearms or ammunition to class.
You will have an opportunity to shoot our .22 rifles at the end of the day (time permitting). We will provide eye and ear protection. Participation in the live fire shooting is optional.
Q: What should I wear?
A: Dress for the weather. The class is held both indoors and outdoors. Wear layers, as it might be chilly in the morning and warm in the afternoon.
If there’s rain in the forecast, we’ll do as much as we can inside, but we can’t do everything inside, so bring a rain jacket.
